LegalLifebelt.com data policy

1          The data controller is Nigel Booth.

2          No data about purchasers of any books published by Nigel Booth under the LegalLifebelt.com umbrella is collected by Nigel Booth.

3          Visitors to the website LegalLifebelt.com may submit data about themselves to Nigel Booth if and when they (a) submit an online form to Nigel Booth or (b) sign up to receive blog notifications and chapter updates by e-mail.

4          Data about visitors to the website is collected by Nigel Booth in accordance with §§ 5 to 8b of this Data Policy.

5          If a visitor chooses to complete the online form in order to submit privately to Nigel Booth any comment about the book or the website, the visitor is required to submit her name and email address.

The first checkbox in the contact form

6          The visitor must check the first box if she wishes to send the online form to Nigel Booth. Checking the box means that the visitor is giving consent to Nigel Booth:

(i) retaining her data and

(ii) contacting her,

for the purpose of clarifying and resolving the point raised by the visitor in her submitted form.

7          Unless the visitor has also checked the second box on the contact form, the visitor’s data will be retained by Nigel Booth only for as long as it takes to identify and resolve the issue that the visitor raised when submitting her online form.

8a         When submitting the online form, there is a second box. The visitor may check this box if she consents to Nigel Booth:

(i) retaining her data generally (and beyond Nigel Booth reading and actioning any contents of the contact form that the visitor has submitted) and

(ii) contacting the visitor by email from time to time about topics related to legal issues that Nigel Booth thinks may be of interest to the visitor.

Signing up to receiving blog and chapter update notifications

8b         When submitting her e-mail address to sign up for blog notifications and chapter updates the visitor consents to the email address being stored automatically in Nigel Booth’s WordPress account for the purpose of being notified about blogposts and chapter update notifications by e-mail.

No data supplied to third parties

9          Nigel Booth does not ever supply visitors’ data to any third party outside the permissions set out in this data policy.

Retention of data

10       A visitor’s data is retained by Nigel Booth in accordance with § 11, 12 and 13 of this Data Policy.

11       Submitted forms are received initially into Nigel Booth’s email account.

12       Where a visitor gives consent in accordance with §7 of this Data Policy, the visitor’s data is retained within the email account only for the purpose described in § 7. When the issue has been resolved, and subject to the visitor’s right under §14 below, the data will be destroyed.

12a        Where a visitor gives consent in accordance with §8a of this Data Policy, the visitor’s data will be retained, subject to the visitor’s right under §14 below, in a secure online storage area. It will be deleted from the email server.

13      Where a visitor signs up to receive email notifications about blogposts and chapter updates, the visitor may unsubscribe at any time, which action will remove her email address from storage in accordance with §8b.

Visitors may at any time withdraw consent for the retention of their data

14        If a visitor wishes to withdraw consent for her data to be retained, she may require her data to be destroyed at any time by submitting such instruction via the online form. The visitor’s data will be destroyed no later than one month after Nigel Booth has received the form.
